KARACHI:
Khyber-Paktunkhwah (K-P) defeated Punjab 11-7 as the National Women’s Baseball Championship 2013 went into its second day at the Punjab Stadium in Lahore yesterday.
Samreen Hashmi was the star with three runs, while Naila Javed and Sana Liaquat contributed two in K-P’s victory.
Meanwhile, a Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF) official said the championship will help shortlist talented players for the national team. “The event will encourage women to take part in the sport,” the official told The Express Tribune. “The players have responded well and we saw a lot of spectators coming to the stadium to watch these women play.”
The four-team event, which will run for one week, is featuring Higher Education Commission (HEC), Sindh, K-P and Punjab.
The teams will play matches in a league format with the top two contesting the final on April 27.
