KP, FATA: JUI-F’s final roll call
Party not fielding candidates in several constituencies after seat adjustments with QWP.
PESHAWAR:
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has issued the final list of candidates for national and provincial assembly seats from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
It lists 47 candidates for 47 National Assembly seats and 85 candidates for 99 seats in the provincial legislature.
There was little variation from the lists issued earlier. The few changes which were made were the result of the party agreeing to seat adjustments with the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP).
Initially, the party had not announced any contenders for NA-4 Peshawar-IV or NA-40 North Waziristan. Now Arbab Kamal is running for NA-4, Peshawar-IV. Kamal joined the JUI-F nearly two weeks back.
The ticket for NA-40 has been awarded to Pir Aqil Jan.
For the provincial assembly, the party had earlier listed 96 candidates. After it agreed to electoral cooperation with the QWP, it is not fielding candidates from PK-17 Charsadda-II and PK-18 Charsadda-III.
Similarly, under the agreement with the QWP, the JUI-F has left three seats in Swabi district – PK-31 Swabi-I, PK-33 Swabi-III and PK-34 Swabi-IV.
Mohammad Ayub Khattak will be contesting from PK-41 Karak-II; earlier the ticket for this constituency was issued to former lawmaker Malik Qasim Khattak.
The JUI-F has also left PK-51 Haripur-III, PK-77 Buner-I and PK-78 Buner-II, PK-99 Malakand-II, PK-83 Swat-IV and PK-86 Swat-VII open.
In addition, three seats in DI Khan - PK-65, PK-67 and PK-68 - are not being contested by the JUI-F in accordance with the seat adjustment with QWP.
Maulana Latifur Rehman, the younger brother of the JUI-F chief, is contesting elections from the remaining two seats of DI Khan district, the hometown of Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
