KARACHI:

A spokesperson for Owais Muzaffar, a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate for a provincial assembly seat from Thatta, issued a clarification in response to a press conference by Shafqat Shah Shirazi and Usman Malkani, Muzaffar’s opponents in Thatta.

Shafqat Soomro, Muzaffar’s spokesperson, said that the allegations against Muzaffar were completely false, fabricated and malicious and pointed towards Shirazi’s desperation.

Soomro said that it was for the first time someone has challenged their monopoly in Thatta and this has prompted them and their cohorts to unleash a personal attack against the PPP and its candidates. Soomro said that besides being false, the allegations also violate the election laws, including the Code of Conduct 2013, issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan. Muzaffar, he said, reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings against them for mudslinging and character assassination instead of fighting a political battle.
