Manifesto discussion: PML-F vows to undo crises facing the country

Speakers oppose construction of Kalabagh Dam in alliance with PML-N.

“We support the construction of Bhasha Dam on Indus River and oppose the construction Kalabagh Dam, which is holding back the rights of the people of Sindh,” says Secretary General PML-F.

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Muslim League - Functional (PML-F) will pull the country out of the crises it is currently trapped in, along with Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).  This was gist of the PML-F manifesto discussed at a policy seminar at Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Monday.

Former Member National Assembly Kunwar Qutubuddin Khan and former PML-F Member Provincial Assembly and Secretary General PML-F Sheikh Anwar Saeed were prominent among the speakers. “We support the construction of Bhasha Dam on Indus River and oppose the construction Kalabagh Dam, which is holding back the rights of the people of Sindh,” said Saeed.

Interestingly, Qutubuddin said the PML-F would also oppose the Free Trade Agreement with India despite being an alliance of PML-N, a major proponent of peace and trade with India. He further said that PML-F opposes the sectarian differences and regional biases. Instead, he, added, the party promotes supremacy, competence and rule of law at regional level and a new system of “homeland security” would be launched to address the law and order at national level.

The policy highlighted provision of free health services to the people above the age of 65 years. According to the policy, the quota for disabled people would be increased to three per cent and special education centres would be developed at local level throughout the country for children with special needs.

“PML-F promises free quality education up to intermediate level and scholarship programmes for girls to encourage deserving students,” said Qutubuddin. Regarding to the energy crisis, he said coal and other alternate energy sources, like wind and solar energy are more reliant. “There is dire need of reviewing reforms programme, through which Water and Power Development Authority was corporatised and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority was created,” he added.

Saeed said the party stands for the fundamental principle of the creation of Pakistan as envisaged by Pakistan Muslim League led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The event was the 10th in a series of seminars, planned to bring manifestos of political parties into discussion and assess their impact on electorates in runup to the general elections.
