Ravindra Jadeja was the star of the show as the left-handed batsman hit a whirlwind 36 to help Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Eden Gardens yesterday.
Jadeja, who starred with three for 20 as Chennai restricted Kolkata to 119 for nine, then had to save his side after they were reduced to 89 for six in the 17th over during the chase. With three overs to go and the run-rate climbing to over 10, Jadeja hit three fours and three sixes in his 14-ball knock as Chennai registered their fourth win in six games of the ongoing IPL.
The loss was Kolkata’s fourth in six games.
“It was crucial for us to win this game,” said Jadeja. “There was not enough time to think when I went in to bat. I decided to hit it and played a few good shots. Earlier, I tried to bowl slower in the air, which worked.”
