BAHAWALPUR:

Police on Wednesday recovered thousands of kilograms of hashish from a truck-trailer that was caught on the National Highway near Sanjarpr, Rahim Yar Khan District Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference to update the media, Tajik said that the district police had been monitoring the Punjab-Sindh border. He said the movement of suspected narcotics dealers was specifically monitored.

He said a police team, headed by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Tanveer Tunio, had stopped a truck-trailer carrying rice on Wednesday (LSE 1658) at around 4pm.

When the rice sacs were removed, he said, police recovered refined hashish. He said the seized hashish was around 7,000 kilograms. It was being transported to Karachi from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The DPO estimated its value at Rs350 million.

Tajik said the trailer driver, later identified as Nawab Sher, and his helpers Faisal Khan and Muhammad Asif, had been arrested.

Calling the recovery “a historic success for the Punjab Police”, he said that the IG had announced Rs500,000 cash prize for the team that made the arrests.

A case has been registered at the Kot Sabzal police station.
