FAISALABAD:

The Faisalabad District Bar Association (DBA) has threatened to march to Islamabad and surround the Supreme Court of Pakistan if the demand for a Lahore High Court bench in Faisalabad was not met by April 22.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Bar President Mian Javaid Iqbal said that the Bar’s general house had decided to take its more than 60-day protest for an LHC bench “to another level”.

He said in its meeting earlier on Tuesday the general house had decided to constitute a delegation, to be headed by the president, which would meet Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on April 22. He said if they did not get a positive response from the chief justice, over 300 lawyers from Faisalabad who would accompany the delegation, would surround the Supreme Court building. The lawyers have been on a strike for two months.
