KARACHI: An alliance of political parties will form the next government and not any one party, forecasted the general secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Mushahid Hussain Syed, during a press conference at the Muslim League House on Monday.

“Many problems could have been solved if Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government had allowed local body elections to be organised across the country,” he added. Syed felt that the upcoming elections will be a test case. “If the election commission performs its role dutifully, anyone who is eligible would be able to contest the elections.”

He also mentioned that PML-Q would contest elections against Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz and Tehrik-e-Insaf in Punjab. “The party is holding consultations with PPP for seat adjustment in Punjab and is also meeting with various political parties in Sindh.”

Syed pointed out seven issues that PML-Q was emphasising in its manifesto, which included curbing extremism, expanding education and ensuring security for all journalists. Appreciating the role played by the media, he said that the PML-Q will provide life insurance to all reporters, cameramen and other media representatives. He also called upon the army, the federal and provincial governments to unite to be able to effectively deal with the problem of extremism.

“PML-Q has good relations with the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement,” he said, adding that MQM served as a bridge between all the political parties.

He also appreciated the role played by the president of PML-Q’s Sindh chapter Halim Adil Sheikh in assisting the flood victims.

A number of eminent leaders of PML-Q, including Banu Saghir Siddiqi and Shahid Abbasi, were present at the occasion.
