KARACHI:
Cricket all-rounder Shahid Afridi will take part in the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) campaign to motivate people to cast their votes in the May 11 general elections.

Afridi said that he was approached by the ECP to participate in the campaign.

“I agreed immediately,” he told The Express Tribune.

“It’s a national cause and I feel it’s my duty to give a helping hand to the ECP which is working hard for free and fair elections,” he added.

The charismatic cricketer will be seen in video messages by the ECP in which he will urge people not to lose the chance to vote, while emphasising on the importance of voting.

The development came a day after speculations emerged of Afridi joining the Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz after he met with the party chief. Afridi, however, had refuted the reports saying that he had only gone to mourn the death of Nawaz Sharif’s brother and has no intentions of joining politics.

Last year, Afridi was appointed as a “polio champion” to act as the face of the anti-polio campaign to end the crippling disease in the country.
