In rememberance: Tributes paid to a major who lost his life fighting militants in 2011

Major Ziaul Haq Kandhro chose to stay back in Mohmand Agency despite being transferred.

SUKKUR: A memorial event to mark the second death anniversary of Major Ziaul Haq Kandhro was organised on Sunday at Sir Shahnawaz Library in Larkana.

It was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life, including several army officers from the Panno Akil Cantonment.

Speaking at the occasion, Lt-Colonel Junaid paid rich tribute to Major Kandhro, saying that he was an honest and dedicated officer. He had been posted to Mohmand Agency and despite being transferred elsewhere, he had chosen to stay back and lost his life while fighting militants on April 10, 2011.



Education had been the greatest passion of Major Kandhro’s life, who had wanted Larkana’s youth to be educated and join the armed forces to serve the nation.

His family has announced scholarships for talented students. At the occasion, Lt-Colonel Junaid distributed the Shaheed Major Ziaul Haq Kandhro award for meritorious services.

The recipients included senior journalist Mehmood Khan Pathan, social activist Apa Shabiran Jokhio, Gul Dayo and Imtiaz Gorar.
