SWABI:
A high-intensity bomb planted by unidentified militants near the house of former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa minister for education Maulana Fazal Ali Haqqani was defused by the bomb disposal squad (BDS) in Zarobi village, Swabi on Saturday. A Topi police official Noorul Amin said at around 5am, a pedestrian informed the police he had spotted a bomb planted near Haqqani’s newly constructed house. Following the pedestrian’s call, Amin along with police contingents and a BDS official rushed to the area and cordoned it off. The bomb had been planted against the boundary wall of the house in a pressure cooker. Four kilogrammes of explosives were used in the bomb, the official said, adding no one was present in the house at the time. Haqqani is the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) district chief in Swabi. He has been awarded a party ticket to contest from PK-35 Swabi-V.
