Curtailed Gas Supply: 8-hour power cuts in industrial zones

KESC said that it had been exempting the industrial zones from power cuts so as not to affect national output.

KARACHI:
The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has started conducting eight-hour-long power suspension everyday starting Saturday in the industrial zones given low gas supply from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). KESC said that it had been exempting the industrial zones from power cuts so as not to affect national output but SSGC has unjustifiably curtailed supply to as low as 120-130 MMCFD as compared to 190-200 MMCFD in the same month last year, especially when the demand is rising due to higher temperatures. Therefore, SSGC should be held responsible for any shortfall in industrial production. The load-shedding will be carried in two cycles of four hours each. The morning cycle would be between 9am and 1pm while the evening one would last from 7pm till 11pm. The usual non-stop power supply would be resumed as soon as gas supply is restored to original levels, the utility said.
