LAHORE:

Dengue larvae have been detected at Bund Road, Ashiqabad, Pakki Thatti and in water tanks of some residential areas.

The sites were identified in the entomologists’ report, presented to the chairman of the Samanabad Town Emergency Response Committee on Dengue, Muhammad Aslam Kamboh, on Thursday. The briefing was part of the dengue eradication meeting held at Kamboh’s office in Samanabad, said a press release.

Town Municipal Officer Imtiaz Awan also informed the meeting that 27 junkyards had been issued notices by the dengue control team for not following the anti-dengue guidelines and for unsatisfactory sanitation.

Kamboh appealed to the residents of the town to clean their water tanks and urged owners of sanitary stores located on Ferozepur Road to ensure cleanliness. He warned of action under the Dengue Control Act if they did not.

Kamboh pointed out that construction sites were another breeding ground for dengue mosquito. Owners and contractors, he said, should not store water for more than a day.

He also asked solid waste management officials to clean all drains and remove garbage dumps from empty plots. The officials were directed to present a detailed report in the next meeting.

Kamboh directed the anti-dengue teams to examine roofs of government and private educational institutions, along with tyre shops, for dengue larvae and take action against those who are not adopting the preventive measures ordered by the government.
