LAHORE:
The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), spurred by a good start to its Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering, has introduced four new masters programmes at the school, increasing the number of such programmes to six.
The school, established in 2008, is already offering undergraduate programmes in six disciplines including physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, computer sciences and electrical engineering. From this year, it will start graduate programmes in all these disciplines.
With Suleman Dawood School of Business being the oldest at LUMS and Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences being the largest in terms of students, the latest addition – Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering – saw its first batch graduate last year in June.
The new programmes are being added following a ‘good start’ by the school in the past five years, says Dr Sohail Qureshi, Dean of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering. “The aim is to think our way through to gradual success in terms of programmes and output,” he adds.
The school hopes to target students who have completed their undergraduate programmes in the disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, which comprises a large pool of students in the country.
