KARACHI:

The special public prosecutor (SSP) excluded seven prosecution witnesses from the witness list in the Shahzeb murder case at the Anti-Terrorism Court on Tuesday.

An eyewitness, who had identified the suspects in the identification parade, was also removed from the list by the prosecution. The other witnesses include a policeman and residents of the Country Club Apartments, where the alleged quarrel started. The prosecution has excluded 22 witnesses and examined 19 out of the 53 witnesses so far.

SSP Muntazir Mehdi told the court that the witnesses were removed because their statements would not lend any support to the prosecution in the case. Sources claimed, however,  that the prosecutor gave up the witnesses fearing that they might turn hostile in the later stages of the case.

The trial of Shahzeb murder case is being heard at the ATC in Karachi.

Justice Ghulam Mustafa Memon of the ATC-III directed the investigating officer to bring the remaining witnesses of the case before the court without any delay.

Shahrukh Jatoi, Nawab Siraj Ali Talpur, his younger brother Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur and a servant, Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, have been charged with killing 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan in the Defence Housing Authority on December 24, 2012.

The case was put off till today [Wednesday].
