Former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s nomination papers for NA-51 Rawalpindi constituency were rejected on Sunday, reported Express News.
The constituency includes Gojar Khan which is Ashraf’s native village.
Geo News reported that Ashraf’s papers were rejected because he was accused of misappropriating funds and indulging in nepotism.
He will be able to appeal the commission's decision within three days.
Ashraf was given the title of ‘Raja Rental’ after he was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects.
He was also accused of buying property in London from money earned through corruption in various scams.
The Election Commission of Pakistan completed the initial scrutiny of nomination papers earlier during the day.
Nomination papers of several prominent politicians were rejected after objections were raised on them.
The politicians included former president Pervez Musharraf whose papers were rejected in Karachi and Kasur.
