Unrecognised Universities: No more diplomas, says HEC

HEC has told several universities to discontinue their distance-learning and online diploma

MULTAN:
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has told several universities to discontinue their distance-learning and online diploma programmes. A notification issued on Saturday, says the diplomas are not recognised by the commission. The matter was brought up by Dr Ishaq Faani, the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, distant-learning programme director, in January 2013. An HEC enquiry committee later concluded that only six universities – Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar University, Karachi University, Sindh University, Jamshero, and the Punjab Univeristy – were permitted by the commission to undertake distant-learning and online programmes. The rest were asked to discontinue.
