Webber a candidate for 2014: Mateschitz

Mateschitz said Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen would also be considered for a future role with Red Bull.

Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz has given Mark Webber assurance that he will be a candidate for the 2014 driver’s seat when the time comes, according to ESPN.

The controversy at the Malaysian Grand Prix, due to Red Bull team orders, had created speculation about Webber’s future with the team as he reflected during the post-race conference the need to consider a lot things ahead of the next race in China.

However, Mateschitz, who has always supported Webber, said the Australian would be considered for the next season of Formula One if he wants to stay on.

“Mark is definitely a candidate for 2014,” Mateschitz told Speedweek. “Whether he retires he must decide, but with us he is always welcome.”

Meanwhile, Mateschitz said Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen would also be considered for a future role with Red Bull.
