BAHAWALPUR:
A district court declared former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Sardar Malik Aamir Yar Waran a proclaimed offender for having a fake degree and fleeing the police, Express News reported on Wednesday.

The court had ordered the police to arrest him by 3pm today but the police failed to do so.

As a result, the court ordered the authorities to freeze his assets and declared Waran a proclaimed offender.

Additional Judge Hamid Hussain Shah of Bahawalpur court heard the fake degree case sent by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on April 1. The court had passed its judgement against the former MNA.

District courts and police across the country swung into action on April 2, awarding sentences and arresting former lawmakers and aspiring electoral candidates alike for submitting fake degrees and having dual nationalities.

A day earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered the ECP and courts across the country to ‘ruthlessly scrutinise’ all contestants and also take action against former lawmakers with fake degrees and dual nationalities by April 5.

Waran was born in Dhoor Kot, Punjab on December 25, 1966 according to the Election 2013 website. His educational qualifications included a BA degree from Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai University, Khairpur.

He won the elections on PPPP ticket but later joined PPPP-Patriot.
