95 years on: Mama Parsi anniversary
Mama Parsi Girls High School turns 95.
KARACHI:
Today, Mama Parsi Girls High School turns 95. Preparations are in full swing to mark the day - students and teachers alike listen aptly as the school’s eighth principal, Furengeez D Tampal, issues instructions.
As you walk past the school’s spacious porch supported by traditional columns decorated with plants, you can’t help but journey back in time. On Karachi’s bustling Bunder Road, which was later renamed MA Jinnah Road, stands a fine sandstone edifice, which became Mama Parsi school in 1918. Tampal narrates the school’s history, strenuously compiled by Jubin Noshir Mama, the great grandson of Khan Bahadur Ardeshir Hormusji Mama, one of the founders of this institution.
