PESHAWAR: A local drug dealer identified as Munawar Khan was put to death by Taliban militants in Mohalla Tokar Khel, Mattani, on Friday night.

Khan and other local drug dealers had previously been ordered by militants to end their businesses in a pamphlet. While other dealers gave up the business, Khan ignored the pamphlet’s warning.

“Late at night, around a dozen armed militants came to the hujra where Munawar Khan was present. He was taken away and shot,” said a local elder.

“The militants had warned him of dire consequences if he did not give up his drug retail business,” said another local, adding Khan dismissed the threats as a joke and lost his life as a result. Mattani police have registered an FIR and an investigation is underway.
