Two police officers, Satellite Town DSP Abid Qaimkhani and Sub Inspector Ameer Azam Shah, were sentenced to life imprisonment in a kidnapping for ransom case by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Mirpurkhas on Saturday.


The court also ordered confiscation of their properties. The men have been convicted for kidnapping a trader, Muhammad Iqbal Malik, and receiving Rs1 million as ransom from his brother, Muhammad Shahid Malik, around eight months ago.

Qaimkhani and Shah, who had obtained bail, were arrested from the court, which acquitted five other suspects -Inspector Ghulam Mustafa Bhutto, ASI Muhammad Ameen, and police constables Imamuddin, Muhammad Saeed and Muhammad Shakir, for want of evidence.

Three other suspects who have been declared absconders will be tried after their arrest.
