GUJRANWALA:

District and Sessions Judge Raja Ikhlaq Hussain has sought a report from jail officials for allegedly beating a convict after he refused to bribe them. Some jail officials had recovered four cell phone batteries from a prisoner, but let him go after they were bribed.

Nasrullah, who was serving life-imprisonment in a murder case, said that the jailers beat him up “to put the blame of someone”. He said they told him that he would be let go if he too bribed them. He was taken out of his cell, stripped and beat up.

Nasrullah then sent a complaint to the judge by mail. He said even if he was a prisoner, jail officials should not have humiliated him.

When the judge summoned the jail superintendent to the court, he said Nasrullah was beaten up because he refused to disclose where he had gotten the batteries from.

Expressing anger over the incident, the judge then ordered the jail officials to submit a report on the incident.
