Higher education: German ambassador sends off DAAD scholars
HEC’s foreign scholarship programme has seen rising number of Pakistani students excel at German institutions.
Of the 33 scholars honoured during today’s ceremony, 12 are PhD candidates who will receive funding from a DAAD Research Grant.
German Ambassador Dr Cyrill Nunn on Monday bid farewell to 33 new German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholars who will be commencing PhD’s and master’s courses at various German universities in the coming months.
The event, held at the German embassy was attended by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Executive Director Dr Ahmed Mukhtar and DAAD Country Director Ursula Saarbeck, said a press release.
The launch of HEC’s foreign scholarship programme in 2004 has seen a rising number of Pakistani students excel at German institutions.
Of the 33 scholars honoured during today’s ceremony, 12 are PhD candidates who will receive funding from a DAAD Research Grant.
Meanwhile, 12 scholars will be completing a master’s in public policy and good governance while eight will complete their master’s in development-related fields.
All 33 scholars will also be taking a compulsory German language course.
During his speech, Dr Nunn emphasised the significance of forging closer ties between Germany and Pakistan in the field of higher education.
“Each scholarship will enhance people-to-people contacts between our two countries,” he said.
