An infant, forcibly kept to clear a debt, was recovered from Murad Wahan Muhalla in a raid by Larkana police led by ASP City Abrar on Monday afternoon.

Mureed Bhutto, a labourer, had borrowed Rs13,000 two years ago from an estate agent, Zulfiqar Manganhar. The amount swelled to Rs20,000 despite the fact that Bhutto used to pay installments regularly.

Around eight days ago, Manghar snatched Bhutto’s newborn son to get his previous dues cleared, when the latter requested for more money so that he could clear his wife’s delivery bills. Bhutto said that Manganhar allowed his wife to visit the baby from time to time to feed him.

ASP City Abrar, while talking to The Express Tribune, confirmed Manganhar’s arrest and the baby’s recovery. He also said a case is being registered against Manganhar though it is not yet clear whether the boy was handed over to the man as surety or had been forcibly taken away from his father.
