Art show: Rang-i-Baharaan opens at Collectors’ Galleria

12 artists show work, exhibition ends April 1.

Rang-i-Baharaan, an exhibition featuring works by 12 contemporary artists opened at the Collectors Galleria at Gaddafi Stadium. The works, says curator Mehnaz Sukhera, showcase popular art themes, such as calligraphy, figurative and expressionistic work, historic architecture and times of disturbance, in a single show.

The exhibit is titled Rang-i-Baharaan as it shows a vast range of art work being produced across Pakistan, she said. She added that most of the artists were from Karachi and three were Islamabad based.

Artist Sajida Hussain, who has four pieces on display, said she only paints figures in oil. She added that her work for the last two years had been neo-realistic-romantic themed.

Islamabad based artist Mansoor Rahi, who has studied art in Japan, France and Germany, has displayed work depicting human expressions in cubical form.

Oil on canvas pieces by Karachi based artist AQ Arif look at doors and structures used in Lahore’s historic architecture.

Farrukh Shahab’s oil-on-canvas pieces depict people’s expressions facing difficult times. He said he had also exhibited his work in Karachi.



Abrar Ahmad, AS Rind, Hajra Mansoor, MA Bukhari, Mussarat Arif, Qamar Siddiqui, Salman Farooqi and Tassaduq Suhail were some other artists displaying their works.  The participating artists were absent from the opening on Friday. Mehnaz said the absence of Lahore based artists in the exhibition was not deliberate.

The pieces were priced between Rs60,000 and Rs300,000. The show will run until April 1.
