KARACHI:

Authorities have cancelled the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued to Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) for holding a public gathering at Mazar-e-Quaid.

Talking to The Express Tribune, District East Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Tahir Naveed said the organisers of the gathering had been informed of the NOC’s cancellation.

“It is Musharraf’s right to hold a public gathering but we cannot allow him to hold a public gathering in this scenario when there are security threats,” said Naveed, adding that while police will provide the former president protocol from the airport to any destination he chooses, they would not allow him to hold the gathering. The DIG added that police and Rangers were placed on high alert in the city to avoid any untoward incident upon Musharraf’s arrival today (Sunday). When contacted, the APML spokesperson said the decision was ‘ridiculous’.
