KARACHI:

Hundreds of upcountry-bound buses and coaches have set up illegal terminals on Super Highway at Sohrab Goth, which has severely hampered the smooth flow of traffic in and around the area.

Motorists and commuters have to face immense problems in navigating the clogged roads from the Lyari River bridge till the Gulzar-e-Hijri intersection. Most of the terminals have been set up near the Al-Asif square and have fast expanded from the link roads and streets to the main Super Highway. Several vendors, cabins, tea stalls and small eateries have also sprang up over the years.

“The residents have been demanding to clear the area of all types of encroachments and develop it properly,” said former MPA Muhammad Yunus Barai.

He demanded that the project of inter-city bus terminal, initiated by former Karachi city nazim Niamatullah Khan, should be completed on a fast track and all illegal bus terminals be transferred there.
