While citing a report on the number of terrorists arrested, the Supreme Court said that most of those caught were found to be associated with different political parties. The court said that parties should expel all such members who are involved in terrorist activities.
In a move which left many with their eyes wide in disbelief, the acting IG of the Sindh police had handed over the Supreme Court a list of 224 suspects involved in target killings and other heinous crimes – with their political affiliations during a hearing for the case on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had asked for a strategy to be compiled to close all no-go areas across the city.
During the hearing at the Karachi registry of the Supreme Court, Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch and Director General of Sindh Rangers, Major General Rizwan Akhtar were asked to formulate the strategy related to the immediate closure of all no-go areas. They also received orders to supervise the operation of no-go areas starting from tomorrow.
An additional report was also ordered on all target killings that took place in the violence-ridden area of Lyari.
The five-member larger bench, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, raked the top brass from the Sindh police and Rangers over the coals for their failure to wipe out the no-go areas in the city. Other members of the bench were Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.
The case stems from the suo motu proceedings initiated by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in August 2011 as the city went through one of its bloodiest summers.

@Karachiites: Unfortunately we are the biggest supporters of criminals, ethnicity and sectarianism. Given that we are getting what we deserve.
@confused: Really! Everyone knows who are the mafia and control the criminals in Karachi. Get rid of those people and everything will be fine.
as usual ask americans for help....
@confused: Its the legal weapons which are the problem, but the illegal ones, genius!
Solve all pending cases (like one of mine) within 2 months.
I applaud Supreme Court's directive...
Why didnt the govt and its coalition partners control target killing and all this lawlessness in Karachi... Simple... They all have their share from this loot and lawlessness. Besides, parties like these gain political support from these situations as they thrive on hatred...
All we need is to start calling a spade a spade and stop supporting parties like these on the name of Sindhi, Urdu, Baloch, Punjabi and Pakhtoon nationalism etc.
The court said that parties should expel all such members who are involved in terrorist activities.
The court must sentence those who're found culprit; instead of asking the parties to kick out the killers, it's the court who has to serve the justice. Last time this very honorable court produced a 'finding report', I hope this time instead of repeating a 'fact finding mission', they do what they're supposed to do!
We people of karachi should boycott parties of criminals, target killers and bhatta khors, if we want constant peace in the city
How can you get peace without the arrest and punishment of the distributor of 300,000+ automatic weapons? He himself said that "they are meant to kill people and not to be used at weddings"
We also know the difference in performance between his home ministry and the one preceding him. Wasim Akhtar's was at least a hundred times more peaceful because he was not patronizing gangs and the drug/extortion mafia.
We, the people of Karachi, urge the CJ of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take action against banned terrorist organizations and their de facto heads. It will be much appreciated
The Supreme Court while hearing the Karachi law and order case on Friday gave security officials 15 days to control violence in the city, . Another headline grabbing but meaningless order from Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. No bad guys will be arrested - no incompetent/corrupt officials will be fired or jailed - no victims will receive justice. Chaundry should spend some time fixing the judicial system (perhaps the most corrupt in the World) rather than wasting time.
Once Karachi is done, then move on to Punjab, and eventually, . . . you get the idea. What a master plan! Pray it works out - even a 4th of it will be an achievement for Pakistan.
Why the Court didnt Order to arrest those suspects? When will we see a conviction?
I applaud IG Sindh for his courage in submitting suspects list along with their political affiliation in the court, and pray to court to release it. Now we will hear hue and cry from political parties who will try to distance themselves from those suspects.
Let there be speedy trials of these suspects and they be punished to what they were doing, and if they are proven innocent then they be released honorably.
Wonder why all this is happening now eh?
Elections.
PPP Out.
This could have been done long ago.
By the time the authorities will submit target killings report to Supreme Court in one month, nobody knows how many names ofthe people will be added in the list?
This matter has to be dealth with iron hand and by all means, as I just cannot tolerate to see every day people are being killed in target killings in Karachi.
Is there any limit to it or not?
