Attack in Peshawar: Lawyers condemn blast at judicial complex
Ask govt to pay Rs1.5m to the family of victims.
KARACHI:
On the call of the Pakistan Bar Council, members of the Sindh High Court Bar Association observed a complete boycott of the legal proceedings at the high court on Tuesday to condemn the suicide bomb attack that targeted a judicial complex in Peshawar.
The SHC Chief Justice through a circular had also suspended the cases fixed before all the judges to express solidarity with the victims in Peshawar.
“This cowardly attack did not just target Peshawar but judiciary in the entire country to ensure that the legal system in unable to convict the accused and to restrain the lawyers from carrying out their duties,” said a resolution jointly adopted by the members at the general body meeting.
They criticised the government and its law enforcement agencies for failing to protect the life and properties of citizens.
In view of the Peshawar incident, the legal fraternity demanded the government to provide foolproof security at the city courts and the high court.
The legal fraternity also condemned the target killing of a practicing lawyer Zaheer Abbas Naqvi in Peshawar and Sibtain Jafer, the principal of the Government Degree College Qasimabad in Karachi.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been asked to pay Rs1,500,000 to the family of each victim and free medical assistance to those injured in Monday’s suicide blast.
