In protest: Academic activities remain suspended

More than 280 public colleges across Sindh remained closed on Tuesday, on appeal of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) to protest the murder of Syed Sibte Jafar Zaidi.
Teachers, with black bands tied around their arms, arrived at around 132 government colleges in Karachi but instead of holding classes, they organised condolence references.
“Teachers will be forced to take extreme measures if the government and law enforcement agencies continue to do nothing,” warned Mirza Athar Hussain, a senior professor at the Adamjee Government Science College. “We may even decide to boycott our duties at the upcoming general elections.”
Sharing his 34-year experience of election duties, Prof. Hussain said that teachers were the one who faced all sorts of threats and pressure while serving as presiding officers at the polling stations. The association has called a meeting on Wednesday to decide its future course of action.
