Mysterious circumstances: Notorious gangster Arshad Pappu reportedly killed
Police confirm development based solely on eyewitness testimony.
KARACHI:
One of Lyari’s most notorious gangsters, Arshad Pappu, was reportedly killed alongside his brother and three gang members on Sunday. But while law enforcement officials confirmed the development, they themselves had not seen the bodies and chose to rely solely on eyewitness accounts.
“We have yet to see Pappu’s and his associates’ bodies,” Kalakot police station house officer (SHO) Tasawar Ameer told The Express Tribune. “We can confirm they were killed based on witness testimonies, but we do not know where the bodies are… we are still searching for them,” he added.
According to the SHO, eyewitness reports suggested around 40 armed men led by Pappu attacked a picket set up by a rival gang led by Baba Ladla in Lyari’s Afshani Gali area. Pappu himself, his brother Yasir Arafat and three of his gang members were reported killed in the encounter.
Only the bodies of two of his gang members, namely Nazar Muhammad and Khalid, were brought to the Civil Hospital, said Ameer. According to sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section, while Khalid was shot multiple times, Nazar’s body bore no traces of bullet wounds and carried marks of torture instead.
Police, meanwhile, have registered a case against unidentified assailants. No senior police official, including police spokesperson SSP Imran Shaukat, shared any more details when contacted.
