Matrimonial issue: Couple gunned down

The couple were going to Holy Family Hospital in a taxi when four armed men on two motorcycles opened fire at them.

A couple was shot dead in a car on Sunday in Ratta Amral locality of Rawalpindi over a matrimonial issue.

The Ratta Amral police station incharge SHO Afzal Shah told the Express Tribune that Zahid, 25, a resident of Raja Sultan locality, had contracted marriage with Salma, 22, against the will of the girl’s parents two months back. However, both families reached a settlement.


“On Saturday, Rohaid Khan, Zahid’s father-in-law called him asking him to bring Salma to his house as her mother was seriously ill and wanted to see her,” he said. The couple were going to Holy Family Hospital in a taxi when four armed men on two motorcycles intercepted the cab and opened fire at them, killing them on the spot. Naheed Bibi, sister of Zahid, who was also present in the taxi, said the motorcyclists after shooting them got off the motorcycles and ensure that the couple was dead and fled from the crime scene.

The  bodies were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital. The police registered a case against the unknown persons but not yet arrested them.
