Snooker: Ishtiaq upsets Asif in national event

KARACHI: Muhammad Ishtiaq stunned IBSF world champion Mohammad Asif 4-3 in the opening match of the Jubilee Insurance 38th National Snooker Championship 2013 at the Karachi Gymkhana yesterday.

In other matches, former national champion Asjad Iqbal outclassed Amir Rashid 4-0 in Group B, while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwah’s Aakash Rafique defeated Sultan Muhammad 4-2 in Group C.

Meanwhile, Sohail Shehzad outplayed Qamar Zaman 4-3 in Group D and former Asian number two Mohammad Sajjad defeated Muhammad Javed Ansari 4-1. The week-long championship is featuring the top 40 players of the country among eight groups. Knockout rounds will start from March 22 with the final scheduled for March 25.
