Khyber Agency: Transporters condemn corruption

Transporters say more than a hundred vehicles were passing through Prang Sam and Bigyari check posts daily.

LANDIKOTAL:
Transporters in Khyber Agency appealed to the political administration to take notice of the corrupt activities being carried out at check posts on the Pak-Afghan Highway on Sunday.

Addressing a news conference at the Landikotal Press Club, Haji Hukhyar Khan Shinwari along with other transporters and businessmen said more than a hundred vehicles were passing through Prang Sam and Bigyari check posts daily after the ban on non-customs paid (NCP) vehicles had been lifted.

He said khasadar officials on duty, who stopped the vehicles, were demanding heavy bribes to clear the vehicles. He explained tribesmen could no longer afford to pay the heavy amounts demanded by the officials, asking K-P Governor Shaukatullah Khan to take action against the corruption. Despite several attempts, neither the khasadar officials nor officials of the political administration commented on the issue.
