KARACHI:

Following the appointment of Air Vice Marshall Syed Razi Nawab as the vice president of the Asian Squash Federation (ASF), Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Secretary Abdul Wahab Marwat is optimistic that the doors of international squash would reopen in the country soon.

The official said that the appointment will prove significant in Pakistan’s cause for bringing back top tournaments and players.

“The appointment of Nawab as the ASF vice president will help Pakistan in convincing people to give us a chance to host again,” Marwat told The Express Tribune.

The official said that the PSF remained convinced that Pakistan can host major events like it used to do in the past by providing fool-proof security to foreign players.

The 1st DHA International Squash Championship concluded successfully here on Friday without any mishap with players praising the facilities and security that they received during the event.

However, Marwat feels that time is changing and people will turn to Pakistan again, a heavyweight in squash.

“We’ve hosted tournaments in Pakistan carrying some of the biggest prize money on offer and there is no reason why we can’t do that again,” he added.

Pakistan is due to host the 17th Asian Individual Championship in Islamabad from May 1 to 5 and the PSF secretary said the federation would endeavour to host the event to the best of its abilities.
