PESHAWAR:
World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) was held by the Directorate of Industry and Commerce, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) at Hotel Shelton on Friday.  Members of the Civic Awareness Promotion Society held demonstrations in favour of consumer rights at the event. Idrees Kamal, Executive Director of Citizen Rights and Sustainable Development, said adulteration and discrepancies in weight measures were major issues affecting consumers. Idrees said the violation of consumers’ rights was a serious problem but, unfortunately, was not given much attention due to issues of militancy. Under the law offenders can be fined Rs200,000 and imprisoned for two years. This law covers services provided by the public and private sector in addition to products and commodities.
