GUJRANWALA:

A maternity hospital was inaugurated here on Friday as part of the government’s programme to set up several 40-bed hospitals to reduce pressure on Civil Hospital. The new hospital is located in Satellite Town.

Executive District Officer (Health) Mah Jabeen presided over the ceremony. She said the hospital had been completed at a cost of Rs15 million.  She said the hospital had a laboratory, an ultrasound machine, an operation theatre, an ECG machine and oxygen supply system.

She said some influential people had occupied a two-and-a-half-kanal piece of government land, but Director General (Health) Dr Nisar Ahmed Cheema had taken the matter to the court. She said on court orders, the land had been retrieved from the illegal occupants.

She said MNA Shaheen Ishfaq had helped the department get funds. She said the patients were charged Rs10 each for every visit. She said the building was handed over to the Health Department by the Buildings Department a week ago.

She said around 70 women were brought to the gynae-ward at the Civil Hospital everyday.
