PESHAWAR:
SP (Rural) Javed Khan narrowly escaped a roadside bomb blast on Charsadda Road.

The SP was on his way back from the Daudzai police station around 11pm on Wednesday, when the bomb went off 20 meters away from his vehicle near Charro Pul, Charsadda Road. He remained unharmed in the attack.

The bomb disposal squad (BDS) was called in to inspect the explosion and recovered parts of a pressure cooker. A BDS official said at least five kilogrammes of explosives were attached to a remote-controlled device. “We do not know whether the SP was the target but he narrowly escaped by a few seconds,” the official said, adding that perhaps terrorists wanted to target the police vehicle and coincidently the SP rural was there. “The person who detonated the bomb probably miscalculated the distance because of rainfall and darkness.”

The device was powerful and could have inflicted considerable damage had the vehicle been in range, he added.
