ISLAMABAD:

The Kidney Centre of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has successfully conducted eight kidneys transplantation. This was said by Secretary Capital Administration and Development (CAD) Riffat Shaheen Qazi on Thursday  while addressing a ceremony held in connection with World Kidney Day.

The secretary said that kidney diseases are silent killers, which can largely affect life, however adopting healthy life style can reduce the risk of developing kidney disease.

Speaking on the occasion, PIMS Executive Director Prof Riaz Ahmed Warraich said that the hospital will soon start heart transplantation and a full-fledged organ transplant unit.

He added genetic and DNA testing laboratories will also be set up in the hospital.

Establishment of SZABMU would not change the functions of Pims in any way, he added.
