LAHORE:

Judicial Magistrate Naveed Ashraf Awan on Tuesday sent three women including an I Com student on a 14-day judicial remand for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash from a house. The Islampura investigation officer produced Rihana Bibi, Kulsoom Bibi and Saba Bibi before the magistrate, seeking physical remand for 10 days. He said that the police needed the time to recover the remaining stolen items from them.

The judge, however, sent them on judicial remand. Police said that the three had knocked at the door of Shakeela Chaudhry and offered her Kheer sweet saying that they were distributing blessed food. When Chaudhry made for her kitchen, the women and a man, Husnain, followed her into the house. Police said they were armed with knives.

They said they took eight gold bangles, cash and some household items from Chaudhry. They left the scene one at a time. As the last woman was leaving, Chaudhry raised an alarm and neighbours caught the woman identified as Kulsoom. Police were called in and arrested Kulsoom. Later, they arrested the other women on information gleaned from her and recovered the gold bangles.
