Paan shop targeted: Karachi bomb blast kills two

The casualties were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Sindh Government Hospital.

KARACHI:

A Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker and his teenage son were killed and about a dozen people were wounded in a bomb explosion in the Landhi neighbourhood of Karachi on Monday.

The powerful blast occurred in the crowded Khurramabad locality of Landhi, killing the owner of the paan shop, Shamsher Khan, and his 14-year-old son, Alyan.

The blast also damaged at least six nearby shops, three vehicles and several pushcarts. Explosives experts collected evidence from the site, including the circuit of a remote control that was used to detonate the bomb. According to them, it was an improvised explosive device (IED), concealed in an iron box and weighed two kilogrammes.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain condemned the blast. “This blast is the latest in a series of attacks against the MQM,” he said in a press statement.

The casualties were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Sindh Government Hospital.
