Self-imposed exile: Arbab Ghulam Rahim returning on March 13

Pakistan Muslim League -Likeminded chief Arbab Ghulam Rahim has decided to return to the country from the UAE after more than four-and-a-half years. Rahim is expected in Lahore on Wednesday, March 13. His party’s senior leadership will welcome him at the airport.


According to the party sources, he left the country soon after he was attacked by enraged political activists following the oath-taking ceremony during the first Sindh Assembly session in April 2008.


Talking to The Express Tribune by telephone, Rahim said, “I am returning to Pakistan and will participate in the upcoming general election,” adding that he would stay for a few days in Lahore before leaving for Sindh.

He further stated that he was neither a criminal, nor had he instigated anyone to commit crimes during his tenure as chief minister from June 9, 2004 to November 19, 2007.

He is expected to hold a press conference on the day of his arrival where the likeminded leadership will reveal its future political strategy.

On 27 December 2011, Arbab Ghulam Rahim was appointed president of the Pakistan Muslim League -Likeminded party.
