Governance: Mehmood appointed ombudsman
The office had been lying vacant on the expiry of contract appointment of Khalid Mehmood on December 7, 2012.
LAHORE:
The government has appointed former chief secretary Javed Mehmood as the provincial ombudsman for four years, The Express Tribune has learnt.
Mehmood may take oath of his office on Tuesday or Wednesday. The office had been lying vacant on the expiry of contract appointment of Khalid Mehmood on December 7, 2012.
Javed Mehmood appointed as chief secretary in March 2008 was removed in the first week of February 2010 following the death of Colonel (retd) Akram who was hit by Mehmood’s staff car.
The Punjab government had retained his services by creating an OSD post in grade 22. He was earlier offered chairmanship of the Bank of Punjab but had refused it.
In June 2011, his services were placed at the disposal of the federal government for appointment as federal secretary (Planning), but he went on leave.
He got pre-mature retirement from the federal government last Thursday and the Punjab government decided to appoint him as ombudsman on Monday.
