‘Musharraf will be tried for Benazir’s murder’

Jehangir Badr says Pervaiz Musharraf will be tried for Benazir Bhutto’s murder charges whenever he returns to Pakistan

LAHORE: General Pervaiz Musharraf will be tried for Benazir Bhutto’s murder charges whenever he returns to Pakistan, Jahangir Badr, the PPP general secretary, said on Saturday.

Badr was briefing the media after the hearing of an accountibity reference against him. He rejected that the ‘guard of honour’ presented to the former army chief on his departure from Presidency was a political decision.

Badr said that if Musharraf decided to return he would be welcomed in a manner that will be remembered in history.

Responding to a question on Nawaz Sharif, he said that it was his constitutional and democratic right to talk about changes within the system. He said that statements calling for change of government were a routine in democracies, adding that there was no threat to the government.

He said that PPP wanted to serve the people and believed in the ‘politics of reconciliation’. He said that the nation needed to unite to tackle current crises.

Badr said that no one should worry about the PPP deviating from Bhutto’s philosophy. He said that the party was committed to its manifesto.

On another query, he said that local bodies’ elections shall be held in a transparent manner.

In fact whole deal fell apart after her death otherwise Musharraf would have been the President & BB the Prime Minister & an ideal combination but she came back before it was principally agreed in the deal that she would come after the elections.

Abdul Rahman Khan | 14 years ago | Reply Jehangir Badar shold first give account how, he being a lower middle class fella, made assets of crores of rupees during the previous PPP rule. He says 'awwam ki adalat' is the best forum to judge a person. The people have given a verdict against him and his son Ali in the previous election. Eaven after his defeat, he is still clinging to his party's secreataryship. Insrtead of threatening musharraf, he should concentrate more on his own trial in the accountability bureau.

He is on of the politicians worrying due to the arrival of Musharraf. God save us from these guys. It is now very clear to the whole nationa that both parties (PPP & PML-N) have been tried several times and their leadership has failed to deliver what is necessary or what they committed to their voters prior to the election. They have just received the votes of sympathy. Allah may give us the strength and wisdom to Pakistani Voters...to make sure these parasites are thrown out of the Parliment in the next General Elections.
