As the operation started, Rangers blocked around 20 entry and exit points to the targeted areas. Several commandos, armoured vehicles, motorcycle scouts and women officials took part in the operation.
Apart from detaining six terror suspects rangers also discovered the torture cell of Shiraz Comrade in Moosa lane. Rangers recovered four people, who had been kidnapped, from the torture cell.
According to sources, certain elements also opened fire at the Rangers as they were trying to enter the area.
Later during the day, when the Rangers left the area, residents started protests and gunmen resorted to firing. The National Highway was blocked as a result.
Due to the sudden recurrence of unrest, Police and rangers forces were called back to the area.
The operation took place hours after bodies of two kidnapped personnel were recovered from the Mewa Shah graveyard in Karachi.
The two kidnapped officials, Hawaldar Muneer Ahmed Bhutto and Aijaz Ahmed Baloch, belonged to the intelligence wing of Sindh Rangers and were abducted on Wednesday.
Rangers officials said that both the men were in civilian clothes when abducted. The men had been last seen in Nazimabad area.
A total of nine people were killed in Karachi during the day in separate incidents of violence.

The time for targetted operations is over. Lyari is not the only place from where all of Karachi's problems stem and picking up 6 people and allowing many more to come back onto the streets and fire shots into the air isn't going to achieve much long term. We need operations in several areas throughout the city, irrespective of ethnic / political / religious leaning and a good first step would be a blanket ban on display or use of automatic weapons and unlicensed arms. That being said, well done Rangers. Keep it up and stay apolitical.
No compromise on terror attack. No political call for terrorist. ALLHA BLESS PAKISTAN......
This city needs a major clean up operation that can only be done by army
SC Court observed that political parties of Karachi have armed wings. According to media reports the target killer of three ulema arrested belongs to a major political party of Karachi. Do the GOS has the courage to name that political party and take severe action against the criminal.
