Literature and cultural festival: GCU, Punjab College win debating competitions at UAF

Students from 31 universities participating in the event.

A debating competition was held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Wednesday as part of its ongoing Lyallpur Literature and Cultural Festival.


A book fair, a qirat and naat competition, a quiz competition, literary discussions, a folk songs competition, a poetry competition, musical shows and theatre performances are also part of the festival.

The event has been organised by the office of senior tutor and the libraries department. It ends on March 8.

A University of Agriculture Faisalabad spokesperson said that students from 31 universities were participating in the festival. He said 104 male and 56 female students were taking part in various contests.

On Wednesday, English and Urdu debates were held. These were won by Government College University, Lahore; and Punjab College, Lahore; respectively.

In the English debates, Government College University’s Khawaja Yasir came first, Momin Niazi of Forman Christian College University, Lahore, second, and Sibtain Raza of Punjab University came third.

In the Urdu debates, Hafiz Faisal of Punjab College came first, Waseem Khan of Bahauddin Zakariya, Multan, came second and Hamza Tarar of Punjab University third.

The quiz competition was won by a team from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.

A team from Punjab University Lahore came second and one from Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore, came third.

On Thursday (today), a folk songs competition and a drama contest will be held.

Separately, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad Inter Faculties Sports Gala was also held on Wednesday. The 1,500-metre race was won by Imtiaz Ali from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Muhammad Zubair from the Faculty of Agriculture and Muhammad Usman Yusuf from Faculty of Agriculture Engineering came second and third, respectively.

Muhammad Niaz from the Faculty of Agriculture came first in the 400-metre race, Qasim Umer from Faculty of Veterinary Sciences came second and Sanaullah from Faculty of Social Sciences, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad came third.
