With all else failing, experts suggest IT could solve society’s problems
Third International Conference on Computer and Engineering inaugurated at Shah Abdul Latif University.
SUKKUR:
The three-day third International Conference on Computer and Engineering was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. The event is being organised by the university’s computer science department.
“We are confronting multiple challenges in the sector of human development and despite heavy investments by public and private sectors, the issues of unemployment and rising inflation continue to affect the society,” said former MNA Syed Jawed Ali Shah, who was also the chief guest. “Given the current international scenario, especially rising oil prices and spiralling commodity prices, it is imperative for us to remove factors holding back growth.”
Syed suggested that a centre for e-governance should be established at the university. “I feel great pleasure that this is the second international conference organised during my tenure,” said vice-chancellor, Prof. Dr Parveen Shah. She asked the researchers why social issues could not be solved through IT?
“Research and learning is a lifelong process - some of the most important ideas, habits and traits are acquired only through a never-ending process of research and education,” she said.
Dr Zubair A Shaikh from the Fast National University, Karachi presented his keynote speech on human engineering, with focus on “Combining Social Science and Computer Science - A new perspective to solve complex problems”. Presenting a case study of the Sindh Public School Education System, he said that our education indicators are going down despite all efforts. He linked the e-education governance, social sciences and technology to the improvement of the education system.
