Philanthropy: Biggest dialysis centre in Punjab

As many as 1,500 patients underwent dialysis every month at the centre for free.

The largest dialysis centre in Punjab has been set up at the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) with help from donors. With the addition of 10 new dialysis machines, the hospital now has a total of 26 machines, said a member of the LGH administration at the centre’s inauguration ceremony on Wednesday. The ceremony was attended by Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Anjum Habib Vohra, LGH MS Dr Muhammad Hassan, Urology Professor Dr Ahmed Salman Waris, Dialysis Centre In-charge Dr Khalid Hussain and the chief donor, Dr Sarfaraz Islam. Dr Islam had donated Rs15 million to upgrade the centre. Vohra said, “Philanthropists are the pride of our society.” He said their donations had been spent in a transparent way. Dr Waris and Dr Hussain spoke about the causes of various kidney problems. High blood sugar levels and blood pressure as well treatment by quacks frequently lead to more serious kidney problems, they said. As many as 1,500 patients underwent dialysis every month at the centre for free, they said.
