Protesters took to the streets in Shikarpur and Larkana after hearing that Hajan Shah Mari Waro, the caretaker of Ghazi Ghulam Shah shrine, Shikarpur - who was injured in a bomb blast in the shrine on February 25 - had passed away.

Three other people, Iqbal Shaikh, Sardar Shaikh and another who has yet to be identified, were killed and more than 20 injured in the bomb blast.

Waro, who received 15 to 20 per cent injuries in the blast, was rushed initially to Civil Hospital, Shikarpur, where doctors expressed their inability to treat him. He was first taken to C-Sukkur, and then to Patel Hospital in Karachi, where he succumbed to the injuries.

After hearing about his death, the shop-owners and businessmen in a number of towns of the two districts, including Lakhi Ghulam Shah and Garhi Yasin, proceeded to close their shops, voluntarily, and gathered on the streets to condemn the government for its inability to address the increasing violence. A heavy contingent of policemen and Rangers also began to patrol the streets in Larkana to prevent possible violence. Saen Sarwar Shah, the caretaker’s elder son, told The Express Tribune that his father breathed his last around 4pm on Monday. “His body will be laid to rest in the premises of Ghazi Ghulam Shah shrine,” he added.
